Young Women’s Writing Project

Ages 13 - 18

Writing and performance workshops for young women facilitated by award-winning writers such as Mona Arshi (https://www.monaarshi.com) and Chloe Esposito (https://www.penguin.co.uk/authors/chloe-esposito/129218/).

“I really enjoyed learning how to use the iPad for creativity. Learning with the Apple Team was great, they make everything fun and we get to use nice products. The Apple team are so helpful. I would love to do more sessions and just keep learning.”

Over four years, ‘The Agents for Change’ young women have written about their lives using a mash-up of genres such as poetry, flash fiction and rap to develop memoirs about their unique lives.  They will also attend  performance workshops with the outstanding writers and publishers who has facilitated workshops nationally and internationally. Young Women have been able to perform their writing at events.

“I enjoyed reading out my work and hearing what everyone likes about it and understanding it.”

The young women’s stories will be edited and published by Vanguard Readings, the publishing company run by Richard Skinner, author of The Red Dancer, The Velvet Gentleman and other works of poetry and fiction.  Richard is the also the Director of the Fiction Programme at the world famous Faber Academy and he will be on the lookout for the next best-selling writer from the workshops.

“I can write what I want, it helps me express myself.”

To date we have launched 4 books; Inky Lemons, Enlighten, The B Dream and Monuments. Each was followed by a book launch celebrating the young women’s achievements. The young women will  go on tour, reading and performing to schools and youth centres, sharing their life stories and raising issues that are of concern to young women.

“It’s good to get such positive feedback as I’m always being told I can’t do things. This gives me a bit of hope.”

‘Monuments’ is available on Amazon Kindle.
