HAY are so happy to announce to announce the launch of two new Accredited projects which are funded and supported by Today at Apple. Our close partnership work with Apple allowed us be part of their very successful Made in London programme for two years. Following on from this, we are able to run two projects with the support from them. The projects are:
14 Magazine Placements
A 9 month placement with a poetry magazine; 14 Magazine to learn and experience first hand what the publishing industry is like. Young people will get weekly mentoring from editors on all aspects of creative publishing and be part of this years launch of the magazine. 14 Magazine is part of Vanguard Editions and so there are a large amount of networks available for young people to explore the creative writing and publishing industry further. Experience and skills young people will acquire are:
- Get a clear understanding of what 14 magazine is and its objectives
- Support with the development of 14 Magazine
- Develop ideas for themes for this years edition
- Learn how to assess and process submissions
- Learn how to use illustrations within the magazine
- Review poetry submissions
- Learn how to do “call outs” for submissions
- Understand the role of social media in promoting the magazine and gaining interest
- Create a plan on how they can sell copies and generate interest in the magazine
- Plan and design social assets / publicity / copy for the magazine
- Research into other poetry magazines and sharing learning
- Understanding of platforms like event bright
- Support the launch of the magazine and the Margate Bookie and the full launch in October
- Promote “Platform 14” within the magazine to encourage young people to put in submissions – possibly even co-facilitate a workshop to young writers to get their submissions
- Identify and contact places that can publicize for submissions for 14 magazine as well as platform 14
- Support any design of publicity
- Young people to understand what a writing residency is and how they can possibly do one
- Branding and tech sessions with Apple
Intended outcomes:
- Increase skills, creativity and critical thinking of young people
- Increase collaboration between young people and the creative sector for fresh dynamic ideas from excluded young people
- Increase professional networks of young people
- Increase confidence and self-esteem of young people

Social Enterprise Workshops
We will be working with Ultra Education to deliver 8 sessions on how to start and launch your own business. We will also have Apple deliver a session on apps and using them to enhance business ideas as well as a Branding session. The topics covered will be
- Finding your passion
- Starting a business – Ideation
- Introduction to entrepreneurship. Logo development
- Business development – Mindset of an entrepreneur
- Digital and Technology – Using Canva and other software
- Motivational talks from young entrepreneurs
- Business development – practice presentations
- Presentation of business ideas
Intended outcomes include
- Young people to feel motivated into thinking about their talents and interests and how they can turn these into social enterprises
- Young people developed a logo and business idea by the end of the eighth session
- Include a talk from a BAME entrepreneur who has successfully developed a business
- Increase the skills, creativity, and critical thinking of young people
- Increase self-esteem and confidence of young people
- Increase young people’s professional networks
- Improve the emotional well-being of the young people
